A lot of people come to this website and read the things I've written or look at the pictures I've uploaded of whatever I've been up to. I think there is a good portion of those people who may take a second to ask, "Who is the guy behind this website?"

I've decided to take some time tonight to try to address that question. I think it's partly for the reader and partly for me.

Who is David?meandabottle

I currenty live in Colorado Springs, Colorado, but I lived in Idaho most of my life prior to living here. I'm from a series of small town in rural Idaho. By small towns I mean towns with populations of about 3,000 people. I think it's had an impact on in me in good, bad and indifferent ways.

My parents divorced when I was so young that I don't remember them ever being together. Frankly, I wouldn't have ever believed they had ever been together if it wasn't for a few pictures I've managed to find over the years. Maybe I'll upload some of those old pictures one of these days.

I spent a lot of time moving from one place to another and from one part of the family to another. I think it's the reason that I tend to prefer chaotic times to peaceful times. Sometimes the lack of "excitement" in my life makes me feel like I'm passing through the calm before a storm.

In 1999 I graduated from high school in a small town called Emmett. The town was/is so small that they only have need for one high school and becuase of that they just named it Emmett High School. I wasn't popular, but people liked me for the most part. I never really hung out with one group of people consistently. I had my group of friends, but it changed fairly often.

After high school, I didn't do much of anything for a couple years. I worked various jobs and kept myself busy.

In October of 2000 I decided to join the Army National Guard. My reasons were all wrong and I don't (at this point) want to get into them. I was in Fort Benning, GA when 9/11 happened. That was a bad day to be in basic training. The only reason that I knew what was going on was because I was in the infirmary with a "virus" and a temperature of about 104 degrees. After completing basic training, I went on to Fort Gordon, GA where I studied radio communications.

Once I finished my military training I decided to go to college. I've always had my reason for not wanting to go to a traditional college, so I decided to go to a technical university. By default, and without much research, I went to ITT Tech. My goal was to get a BS in Computer Networking. Well, after a year of going through the motions of "college life" and spending $16,000 I decided that I wasn't going to get enough out of my ITT Tech experience and decided to quit going.

While I was going to school and doing my part as a "citizen soldier" I was recruited by a friend to learn how to play bass guitar and join his band. I learned the basics, but not much more than that. I played a few shows with them and had a good time, but the band thing didn't go anywhere for me. At least I can say I was in a band and at least made an attempt at playing an instrument.

All of that ended in 2003.

In late 2003 I made a decision that changed my life. There are those of you who know what that decision was. Those of you who don't know what it was, it doesn't matter any more. I will say that it had a huge impact on almost every aspect of my life for the 5 years that followed. If you're keeping track, that means that I've only recently been "free" of that mistake and I can say that I've learned a lot about life, the legal system and the impacts they can have on each other as a direct result.

Between 2003 and 2007 I just stayed in the shadows and kept to myself as much as possible. I lived in Boise, Idaho mostly and worked a few different jobs. Back then getting a job was as easy as making a phone call. It's funny how "2007" and "back then" sound so long ago these days.

messyhairmeNovember 1, 2007 I moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Shortly after moving here I started working at a restaurant, met some interesting people and finally started going out again. I worked at the restaurant for about 10 months before it closed.

Less than a week later I was working in an office for a locally owned company. I've been there for almost a year. My responsibilities there seem to change depending on what day it is. Unfortunately, they don't change consistently and I've been laid off once. I was almost laid off a second time, but a couple of the guys there came to my rescue without me even knowing it until after the fact.

...I started writing this with the intention of talking about my interests and hobbies. Somehow it's turned into what you've read. Maybe sometime in the near future I will write something about my interests, but I think that those of you out there who know me know what my interests are. For those of you who don't, I guess all I can say is, "Stay tuned."
